About Polypropylene Suture
Polypropylene suture is a nonabsorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of a synthetic linear polyolefin. Polypropylene is blue to enhance visibility in the body. Polypropylene suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in the tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous tissue. Due to its highly ductile characteristics, it extends 30% prior to rupture of the thread, which allows for post-operative swelling of tissue while avoiding strangulation.
